The visiting for Paediatric Wards is mentioned below. It is important that you speak to the ward staff to find out the most up to date information or visiting restrictions.

Both parents or primary care givers have unrestricted access during the day to stay with their child on the unit/ ward (only one parent at night).

Siblings can visit however only 2 persons around the cot/bed space, one of which should be a parent.

All visitors must follow advice and guidance from staff.

All visitors must follow good hand hygiene and washing of hands, including the use of the alcohol gel provided on the ward/ unit.

Travelling by Car
If approaching Wrexham from the north on the A483 leave this road at the junction with the A541 (sign-posted to Mold) and turn left towards Wrexham. Immediately move into the right hand lane to turn right at the next roundabout. Continue past the entrance to B&Q to another roundabout where you should take the first exit. Follow Rhyd Broughton Lane uphill to a further roundabout and turn left into Croesnewydd Road which runs through the Hospital site. The main car parks and main entrance are through Gate 1, which is on your right hand side after 100 metres.

If approaching from the south on the A483 leave this road at the junction with the A525 (signposted to Ruthin) and turn right to head towards Wrexham. After approximately 1/2 mile take the left hand turn at the traffic lights. Pass the Yale Hospital on your right and take the second exit at the roundabout into Croesnewydd Road which runs through the Hospital site. The main car parks and main entrance are through Gate 1, which is on your right hand side after 100 metres.

If approaching on the A541 from Mold go straight across the junction with the A483 towards Wrexham. Immediately move into the right hand lane to turn right at the next roundabout. Continue past the entrance to B&Q to another roundabout where you should take the first exit. If approaching on the A525 from the north (from Denbigh & Ruthin) continue straight through the junction with the A483. After approximately 1/2 mile take the left hand turn at the traffic lights. Pass the Yale Hospital on your right and take the second exit at the roundabout into Croesnewydd Road which runs through the Hospital site. The main car parks and main entrance are through Gate 1, which is on your right hand side after 100 metres.

If approaching from the east on the A534 (from Holt & Nantwich) come into the town until the roundabout by the Swimming Baths with the distinctive peaked roof. Turn left and follow signs for the A525 to Whitchurch, around the Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre until you pass Halfords on your right hand side to reach the traffic lights at the junction with St Giles Way. Turn right into this road. Continue along St Giles Way, passing through a pedestrian crossing and another set of traffic lights before coming to the roundabout by the Island Green Shopping Centre. Pass straight over both this roundabout and the one that follows shortly afterwards, before crossing the railway at the level crossing into Croesnewydd Road which runs through the Hospital site. The main car parks and main entrance are through Gate 1 which is on the left hand side, about 100 metres after the ambulance entrance to the Emergency Department.

If approaching from the south east on the A525 (Whitchurch) come into Wrexham until the road passes through a set of traffic lights and then turns to the right and drops downhill, passing the Lidl store on your left hand side. At the traffic lights immediately after the store turn left into St Giles Way. Continue along this road, passing through a pedestrian crossing and another set of traffic lights before coming to the roundabout by the Island Green Shopping Centre. Pass straight over both this roundabout and the one that follows shortly afterwards, before crossing the railway at the level crossing into Croesnewydd Road which runs through the Hospital site. The main car parks and main entrance are through Gate 1 which is on the left hand side, about 100 metres after the ambulance entrance to the Emergency Department.

TRAIN
Wrexham Maelor Hospital is less than a mile from both Wrexham General Station and Wrexham Central Stations.

BUS
The following Wrexham bus services stop on Croesnewydd Road, outside Wrexham Maelor Hospital, however please check before travelling as these bus routes may change. 9, 10, 11, 12, 15a, 16, 17, 21a, 26, D42, TL, X50, X94. Parking
Car parking is free. Children’s Ward parking is in the cark park, Gate 3, Entrance B.

Ward Facilities

Our Children’s Ward has 22 inpatient beds including two Oncology Cubicles which have en suite bathrooms. Our Oncology patients have open access to the Children’s Ward.

Parents can phone the ward on the numbers above 24hrs a day and will be able to speak to a member of staff.

Our nursing staff are all trained to use the Children and Young People Oncology/Haematology Triage Tool.

Parents/carers can stay with their child at all times.

We do not have visiting times fro relatives, but would ask that only parents/carers stay after 20.00hrs.

We have fold-down beds for one parent to stay overnight in the cubicles.

We have a dedicated Playroom in which there is an Oncology Cupboard.

We have a parents room in which there is a snack cupboard for our Oncology patients. This is regularly topped up by Giddo’s Gift Charity. They also provide meal-vouchers for our parents/carers so you can have a hot meal from the canteen while staying on the ward.
