The car parks are often very busy in peak times. If you are brining your child in as an emergency (i.e. if they have a temperature), please drive to the back of the hospital past the Cancer Centre and round to the left towards the maternity entrance. You will see a barrier – please press the buzzer for the Children’s unit and let them know who you are. The barrier will be lifted, please park in the 1st space on your right. This is a drop of area only, please move your car to one of the main car parks once your child is settled on the ward.

Ward Facilities

There are two oncology cubicles on the unit. One on ward 17 and one on ward 18. The cubicles have been decorated to make them more homley and comfortable. Both have profiling beds, TV’s, their own toilet and observation monitoring equipment. Both cubicles have a put down bed and lazy chair for parents/carers. Each oncology child will have a box of their favourite things created for them by the playroom staff which can be brought to them on every admission. The unit has a parents room where a hot drink can be enjoyed, children are not allows access to this area. There are three playroom staff who can bring toys and activities to the cubicle. If you child is well enough they may be able to close the playroom to other patients to allow your child to enjoy time playing in there with a minimal risk of infection.

There is a snack box available for oncology patients only provided by Giddo’s Gift Charity. The charity also provides meal-vouchers for our parents/carers so you can have a hot meal from the canteen while staying on the ward.
